Free photos of forts and castles from Puerto Rico, USA, Italy, & Canada

Forts and castle have both been used for thousands of years as a defensive means to protect families, clans, villages, and armies from attack. Most often situated in a strategic location on a point of land, the top of a large hill, or at the joining of two rivers they featured large, thick walls with slits to shoot arrrows through, moats, mounted cannons, and even bolt-holes to make a secretive escape.
